EAEU publishes amendment on requirements for food additives, flavorings and processing aids

The changes are made by decision of the EEC Council of August 29, 2023 No. 84. Decision No. 82, which is a nearly 600-page document, updates 5 sections of the technical regulation and 29 annexes, incl. lists of food additives that may be used in the production of foodstuffs and flavoring substances permitted in the production of flavors.


Among the changes are the following:

  • The terminology of the technical regulations has been updated;
  • 19 items that are no longer relevant have been excluded from the list of approved food additives; at the same time, 6 new items have been added to the list;
  • The lists of enzyme preparations and flavoring substances have been extended;
  • The lists of foodstuffs in the production of which the use of colorants is not permitted and of foodstuffs in the production of which certain colorants are permitted have been clarified;
  • The scope of application of each food additive has been adapted;
  • The procedure for labeling food additives, flavors, processing aids and the procedure for conformity assessment of these substances has been revised.


The changes to TR CU 029/2012 come into force after 180 calendar days from the date of official publication of decision No. 82, i.e. from February 28, 2024.
