Three new food enzymes approved
Canada
Jul 07, 2023
Health Canada's Food Directorate has completed a premarket safety assessment of a food additive submission seeking approval for the use of beta-(β)-glucanase, cellulase and xylanase from Rasamsonia emersonii in various foods.
The results of the premarket assessment support the safety of β-glucanase, cellulase and xylanase from R. emersonii for its requested uses. Consequently, Health Canada has enabled the use of β-glucanase, cellulase and xylanase from this source by modifying the List of Permitted Food Enzymes, effective June 28, 2023.
Health Canada has published an information document to publicly announce the Department's decision in this regard and to provide the appropriate contact information for those wishing to submit an inquiry or new scientific information relevant to the safety of these food additives.
