Designation of foodstuffs containing vegetable protein
France
Jul 05, 2022
Decree No. 2022-947 bans the use of words such as "steak", "hamburger" or "sausage" on plant-based foods. The ban, which was originally agreed in 2020, will come into force in October.
"Sectoral terminology traditionally associated with meat and fish may not be used to designate products that do not belong to the animal world and are essentially not comparable," reads the official decree.
The provisions of this decree apply to the foodstuffs, elaborated in the national territory, that contain vegetable proteins.
