Health Canada issued an official document approving Sourvisiae®, a genetically modified saccharomyces cerevisiae (i.e., brewer's yeast) preparation for use as a food additive.
After a rigorous evaluation, Health Canada has confirmed that the genetic modification of this yeast strain does not pose a greater health risk than other yeast strains available on the market. In addition, the Health Ministry also concluded that the yeast strain does not cause allergic reactions and that its use in food does not raise any nutritional concerns.
