Commission establishes analytical methods for official controls by food business operators

With implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/2463 of 12 September 2024, the Commission aying down analytical methods applicable to official controls performed for the verification of compliance of food business operators with Regulation (EC) No 2073/2005.
It should be noted that there are no Union rules concerning the specific methods of laboratory analysis to be used during official controls aimed at verifying compliance with the standards and criteria laid down in Regulation (EC) No 2073/2005. This situation could be detrimental to the quality of official controls of foodstuffs placed on the market and could distort competition. Therefore, in order to ensure greater uniformity, reliability and consistency of official controls, Union requirements should be laid down for the analytical methods to be used by official laboratories when analysing official samples in accordance with the criteria laid down in Regulation (EC) No 2073/2005.
