Authorities announce new regulations to reduce contaminants in food products

Romania

Jun 27, 2025

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry has adopted new regulations to reduce contaminants in food products.  The regulations concern products that are frequently consumed (bread, crisps, cookies, cereals, coffee or baby food). Modern analytical methods, uniform sampling procedures and stricter standards for food operators will be applied. The measures adopted seek to reduce the presence of substances such as acrylamide, mycotoxins and plant toxins, mainly derived from the heat treatment of foods.

"The new provisions will contribute to greater producer responsibility, improve the control capacity of the authorities and increase consumer confidence in the food on the market. The implementation of this framework will also boost the competitiveness of Moldovan products by meeting the quality and safety requirements increasingly demanded by trading partners," said Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga.
