Singapore seeks comments on draft food safety bill

Singapore

Aug 20, 2024

The Singapore Food Agency (FSA) has issued a public consultation for the Food Safety Bill which will consolidate food-related legislation from eight existing laws and introduce new powers to strengthen food safety.

The bill will have new sections to require all licensed food importers to provide records within 24 hours when requested and complete food product recalls within a timeframe indicated by the SFA. If a licensed importer initiates a voluntary recall because the food may be unsafe or unsuitable, they must also notify SFA within 24 hours. Another part is the ability of SFA and industry to conduct simulations to test recall procedures when necessary.
