Since the Cannabis Act and Regulations took effect in 2018, the legal cannabis industry has evolved significantly in Canada. To reduce regulatory and administrative burdens, on June 8th, 2024, amendments were proposed to the Regulations, Cannabis Tracking System Order, Industrial Hemp Regulations, Cannabis Exemption (Food and Drugs Act) Regulations, and Natural Health Products Regulations. These changes aim to streamline licensing, security, production, packaging, labeling, and record-keeping requirements while maintaining public health and safety. The amendments, supported by an independent Expert Panel, are expected to save the industry $288.5 million over ten years, with no additional costs, and significantly benefit small businesses.
