Hemp seeds authorized for use in foodstuffs

The Secretariat of Health Quality and the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has published the "Joint Resolution N° 31/2023", which amends articles 536, 917 and 1407 of the Argentine Food Code to include hemp seeds. Hemp seeds are defined as healthy, clean and well preserved seeds of the different varieties of the plant species Cannabis Sativa L. that do not express more than one percent (1%) of delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), authorized by the competent authority for food use.

The resolution details the standards and specifications for the inclusion of hemp-related products in the Argentine Food Code, its criteria and characteristics, covering parameters like THC content, seed quality, microbiological criteria for flour, extraction methods for oil, physicochemical specifications, and fatty acid compositions.
