India re-operationalizes rules on licensing and registration of food businesses

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has re-operationalized the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Amendment Regulations, 2021, effective from November 11, 2023.
These amendments, initially framed in 2018 and approved in 2017, cover licensing and registration for e-commerce food operators, restaurants, and small slaughterhouses. They also include guidelines on hygienic practices for food business operators. Enforcement will begin once the final regulations are notified in the Gazette of India.
