Myanmar amends National Food Law to strengthen penalties

The Myanmar's State Administration Council has amended Section 28 of the National Food Law, introducing stricter penalties for food-related offenses.

Violations under subsections (a) to (g) now carry up to ten years' imprisonment and fines ranging from 300,000 to 3 million kyats (86 to 860 euros). Offenses under subsections (h) and (i) face up to one year in prison and fines up to 500,000 kyats (143 euros). Under Section 29, violations are punishable by up to ten years' imprisonment and fines between 1 million and 5 million kyats (287 to 1436 euros).
