Denmark sets adjustments to the maximum allowed content of some food additives

On May 28, 2024, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (DVFA) amended the Administrative Order on the Addition of Vitamins and Minerals to Foods. Key changes include adjustments to the maximum allowed content of several additives:

  • Ascorbyl Palmitate (INS 304): maximum content in formula milk is set at 1 mg/100 mL.
  • Acesulfame (INS 950): reduced from 600 mg/kg to 300 mg/kg in coffee, tea, and other beverages.
  • Saccharin (INS 954): reduced from 300 mg/kg to 200 mg/kg in water-based flavored beverages, and from 200 mg/kg to 100 mg/kg in coffee, tea, and other beverages.
  • Low acyl gellan gum (E418): set at 5 mg/100 mL for infant formula for special medical purposes.
  • Phosphate (INS 339): set at 45 mg/100 mL for infant formula for special medical purposes.
