FSA consults on the reform of authorization process for regulated products

UK

Apr 09, 2024

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Food Standards Scotland (FSS) are seeking views on two proposed changes to the authorization process of regulated products.

Regulated products, among which are food additives and flavourings, need to be authorized as safe before they can be legally marketed in the UK.

The reform proposes the following amendments to the current process:

  • To remove the mandatory renewal of authorisations at fixed intervals of every 10 years;
  • To remove the obligation to lay legislation to authorise regulated products.
