Polyvinyl Alcohol authorized as a new food additive

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) has approved polyvinyl alcohol as new food additive and has added it to the list of the designated food additives appearing in Appended Table 1, as mentioned in Article 12 of the Enforcement Regulations under the Food Sanitation Law.

Use of Polyvinyl Alcohol is restricted to non-normal food forms such as capsules and tablets, and it is not permitted in confectionary products.
