ANVISA publishes amendment on the regulation of additives and processing aids for use in foodstuffs

The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA in Portuguese) has published Normative Instruction - IN No. 274, amending Normative Instruction No. 211/2023 which establishes the technological functions, maximum limits and conditions of use of food additives and processing aids authorized for use in food.
The additives added to the list are:
- Propylene glycol alginate (INS405) for use as stabilizer or emulsifier in several food categories and with certain limits
- Carmines (INS120) and Chlorophophylls and Chlorophyllins, copper complexes (INS141 (ii)) as colourings in biscuits.
This Normative Instruction comes into force on March 4, 2024.
