Health Canada proposal to modify the Lists of permitted Food Additives

Canada

Nov 06, 2023

Health Canada's Food Directorate is proposing changes to the Lists of permitted food additives in the project of modernization of Part B of the Food and Drug Regulations.

The current proposal aims at consolidating additives rules into a single Division in Part B. As part of the modernization work, Health Canada intends to make certain changes to the food additive Lists, including standardizing the structure of the Lists, revising some of their titles, and revising text for consistency or clarity.

The Lists would set out which food(s) each additive is permitted in, the permitted source of the additive (where applicable), the purpose for which the additive may be used in that food and the maximum level of use or maximum residue in each food, and any other conditions that may apply.

The proposal is open for comments until February 2, 2024.
