California bans 4 harmful chemicals from foods

USA

Oct 12, 2023

California Governor has signed the California Food Safety Act, prohibiting the manufacturing, sale, delivery, distribution, or carrying of food products for human consumption containing four presumably harmful chemicals: brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propylparaben, Red Dye No. 3, and titanium dioxide.

The substances have each been linked to serious health problems, including higher risk of cancer, nervous system damage, hyperactivity, and other behavioral problems. All have been banned by regulators for use in food in Europe.

The bill has made California the first state to ban these four additives in the U.S.
