ANSES develops herbal supplement safety tool

The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) has created an online tool summarising safety concerns around herbal supplements to help health experts advise patients.
ANSES warns about the risks associated with the consumption of certain food supplements of plant origin, pointing out the lack of consumer information. It offers a tool that deciphers 118 medicinal plants.
To increase consumer safety, ANSES recommends that manufacturers explicitly indicate on the packaging or in the instructions any restrictions on use related to the presence of plants in the product. In addition, it suggests specific training for health professionals in charge of advising or marketing these food supplements.
