Amendment for the inclusion of Pan Masala and arecanut-based air fresheners in the food category

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), submitted the Draft Notification on Food Safety and Standards (Food Products and Food Additives Standards) Amendment Regulations, 2022 regarding the inclusion of Pan Masala and nut-based mouth fresheners in the food category.
In the Table 15, in column (1) under the heading food category system, against items 15.2,-
(i) in column (2), for entries “Processed nuts including coated nuts and nut mixtures”, the following entries
shall be substituted, namely. -
“Processed nuts including coated nuts and nut mixtures*”;
(ii) in column (3), (4) and (5) after the food additive “SORBATES” and the entries relating thereto
following shall be inserted, namely. -
“* No synthetic food colour permitted in pan masala and arecanut based mouth fresheners.”
