Amendment to the Food Code on foods low and reduced in lactose published

Food with Low Lactose Content and Reduced Lactose Content is understood to be those foods whose dietary value results from the restriction of the ingredients that contain lactose, the separation of lactose from the food, the decomposition of lactose, or a combination of these or other suitable technological processes.

The Low Lactose Content Food shall not contain more than 5% of the lactose proportion of the corresponding ordinary food, ready for consumption.

The Reduced Lactose Content Food shall not contain more than 30% of the lactose proportion of the corresponding ordinary food, ready for consumption.

Enzymes may be used to hydrolyze the lactose.
