Update on progress on the review of commercial infant and young child food policy

Food ministers considered a policy paper on Commercial foods for infants and young children and agreed on a policy position. This will guide approaches for improving commercial foods for infants and young children.
This recognises the important role of food in:
- Infant and young children’s growth and development
- The establishment of eating patterns and taste preferences into adulthood.
Ministers have referred issues relating to regulatory approaches to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ). The policy paper was prepared by the Food Regulation Standing Committee to provide advice to the Food Ministers’ Meeting. Food Ministers agreed to the policy position out of session in March 2025.
