BPOM announces changes to the regulation on food categories and raw materials derived from plants or animals

The Food and Drug Authority (BPOM in Indonesian) has published Decree No 70 of 2025 on Changes in Food Categories and Raw Materials Derived from Plants or Animals. The decree took effect immediately, repealing BPOM Regulation No 13 of 2023 on Food Categories.
The authority has considered that food categories are criteria that form the basis for determining the safety, quality, nutrition and labeling standards and/or requirements for processed foods, consequently, food categories and raw materials derived from plants or animals must be adapted to the evolution of science, technology and innovation in the food sector.
