New draft regulation for edible vegetable fats and oils

The National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA in French) has published the Draft decree on the quality and health safety of edible vegetable fats and oils marketed edible vegetable fats and oils marketed. The provisions of this decree, drafted in application of Law No. 28-07, relating to the safety of foodstuffs, have the following main objectives concerning the safety of foodstuffs, have as their essential objective:
- Define the edible vegetable fats and oils marketed;
- To establish the denominations under which such fats and oils may be marketed.
- To establish the names under which such fats and oils may be marketed;
- Establish the physicochemical characteristics by ministerial decree;
- To define legal and illegal operations related to fats and oils plants;
- To abolish the provision relating to the nominal volumes under which the oils may be presented to the purchaser in the retail trade;
- Define the terms of labeling and presentation for the sale of fats and oils.
