DEFRA to amend wine reuglations in 2024

The British Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has announced reforms to the UK wine industry regulations, which will take place from 2024.

The main changes introduced by the reforms, which retain and adjust some EU laws and integrate domestic wine regulations, are:

  • the requirement to show "importer" or "imported by" on the label of imported wine will be removed;
  • the production of Protected Geographical Indication (PDO) wines using hybrid grape varieties will be permitted.
