FSSAI publishes Direction on Food Additive Regulations

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) published a direction clarifying and explaining the interpretation of Appendix A of its Food Safety & Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives Regulations) Regulations, 2011, as amended in 2016.

The existing Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards And Food Additives) Regulations, which is largely aligned to General Standard for Food Additives (GSFA) of Codex Alimentarious, categorizes all the foods in India in 15 categories. These categories are further subdivided into sub-categories till the 4th level of sub-categorization.
