The increasing geriatric population, rising health awareness, and preventive healthcare measures have spurred demand for health supplements, and hence drive the growth of the nutraceutical industry. Starting from 2020, the annual health spending on supplements has surpassed OTC drugs. In 2022, the global supplement market size has exceeded US$ 120,000 million, and the growing trend is expected to continue. Apart from supporting normal body functions, more studies show that these supplements have a wide range of benefits to physical and mental health. At the same time, taking supplements could impose health risks. Therefore, health authorities are tightly monitoring and regulating health supplements, including their manufacturing process, quality, safety, labeling, and claims. The regulation details may vary between different regions, but they all aim to safeguard public health.
