Monitoring of the presence of furan and alkylfurans in foodstuffs

The European Commission publishes Commission Recommendation (EU) 2022/495 of 25 March 2022 on the monitoring of the presence of furans and alkylfurans in food. Member States, with the active involvement of food business operators, monitor the presence of furan, 2-methylfuran and 3-methylfuran in foods, and in particular in coffee, jarred baby foods (including baby foods in containers, tubes and bags), ready-to-eat soups, potato-based crisp snacks, fruit juices, breakfast cereals, cookies, crackers and toasted bread.
