Ukraine

Apr 21, 2025

The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection has issued a communiqué on safety aspects for the consumption of dietary supplements.

The communiqué emphasizes that a dietary supplement is not a drug, but a food product that is a concentrated source of nutrients (including proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals) or other substances with a nutritional or physiological effect and is intended for consumption in defined small quantities.

In addition to the mandatory information on the food product (Article 6 of the Law of Ukraine “On Consumer Information on Food Products”), the label of dietary supplements must indicate the following, in accordance with the Hygiene Requirements for Dietary Supplements, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine No. 1114 of December 19, 2013:

  • The name of the foodstuff is “dietary supplement”;
  • The name of the categories of individual nutrients or other substances characterizing the product or indicating the origin of such individual nutrients or other substances;
  • The amount (serving) of a dietary supplement recommended for daily consumption;
  • A warning not to exceed the recommended amount (serving) specified for daily consumption;
  • An indication that dietary supplements should not be used as substitutes for a balanced diet;
  • A warning that the product should be stored out of the reach of children.
