SAMR's new application procedures for special medical foods

The State Administration for Market Regulation of China (SAMR) has issued the Working Procedures for Priority Review and Approval of Registration of Food for Special Medical Purposes.
The “Procedures for Priority Review and Approval for the Registration of Prepared Food for Special Medical Purposes” was adopted at the 25th Executive Meeting of the Office of the State Administration for Market Regulation on September 30, 2024, and is hereby announced and shall become effective as of the date of issuance.
Scope of Application
Interested parties applying for registration of foods prepared for special medical purposes may apply for the priority review and approval procedure if any of the following circumstances apply:
- Foods prepared for special medical purposes related to rare diseases;
- New types of prepared foods for special medical purposes that are urgently needed for clinical use and have not yet been approved.
- Other priority situations for review and approval as determined by the State Administration for Market Regulation.
