New rules on amino acid management in foods for special dietary uses

The China National Health Commission (NHC) and the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) have jointly released the "Announcement on the Management of Amino Acids in Foods for Special Dietary Uses", which has entered into force with immediate effect.

The draft specifies the requirements on:

  • the use of 22 amino acid as a nutritional fortification substance in foods for special dietary uses;
  • the production raw materials and production processes of amino acid;
  • the test methods for various physicochemical indicators of amino acid.
