Panama to participate in the development of international guidelines to combat food fraud
Panama
Sep 20, 2024
Panama's Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MICI in Spanish) took a leading role in the international arena by co-chairing the development of the guidelines on the Prevention and Control of Food Fraud within the framework of the Codex Alimentarius. This effort was carried out in collaboration with China, the European Union and the United Kingdom, under the chairmanship of the United States.
The work on the draft guidelines will be led by the Codex Contact Point of the ICIM. The guidelines will provide Panama and other member countries with clear and detailed guidance to effectively address food fraud. These regulations will help regulators, companies and other stakeholders to implement preventive strategies and respond appropriately to incidents of fraud.
