NHC adds 4 ingredients to the catalogue of substances traditionally considered both foods and Chinese medicines
China
Aug 29, 2024
The National Health Commission (NHC) and the State Administration of Market Regulation (SAMR) jointly issued an announcement to include four substances: Rehmannia glutinosa, Ophiopogon japonicus, Asparagus esparagus and Huajuhong into the catalogue of substances that are traditionally Chinese food and medicinal materials.
It is understood that in order to standardize the updating of the catalog of food and drug substances, the National Health Commission has formulated the “Regulations for the Management of the Catalog of Substances that are both Food and Traditional Chinese Medicine according to Tradition”. When applying for the inclusion of a new substance in the catalog of substances, the safety information must be organized in accordance with the relevant requirements and submitted together with the application. Upon receipt of the application, the National Sanitary Commission will organize a review and, together with the State Administration for Market Regulation, issue an announcement and include in the catalog whether it meets the food safety requirements.
