FDA consults on principles for safety assessment of novel food ingredients

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published draft of Principles for Safety Assessment of Novel Food Ingredients (hereafter referred to as the Draft Principles). Stakeholders are encouraged to submit opinions within 60 days following the announcement.
These principles standardize the definition of non-traditional food ingredients, the safety assessment process, the information and forms required for inspection, etc., for those who must submit them. The objective is to perform a rigorous evaluation with scientific evidence to protect consumer health and to consider the development of the industry.
