FDA finalizes rule on traceability records for certain foods

USA

Jun 28, 2024

The FDA has issued a final rule requiring additional traceability records for certain foods under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). This rule mandates that manufacturers, processors, packers, and holders of foods on the Food Traceability List (FTL) maintain records with Key Data Elements (KDEs) for Critical Tracking Events (CTEs). It allows for faster identification and removal of contaminated foods, reducing foodborne illnesses. The rule applies to both domestic and foreign entities and aligns with industry best practices. Compliance is required by January 20, 2026.
