European Union

Jun 28, 2024

Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/1821, effective June 25, 2024, has amended Annex II of Regulation (EC) No 1925/2006 and Directive 2002/46/EC to include iron milk caseinate as an approved form of iron in foods and food supplements across the European Union. This decision follows a favorable safety assessment by the European Food Safety Authority, confirming its bioavailability and safe use under specified conditions. Iron milk caseinate, authorized as a novel food under Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/949, will now be listed alongside other permitted substances.
