USDA-FSIS adds sesame to the list of major food allergens

The United States Department of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA’s FSIS) has issued the third revision of the Directive on the "Ongoing verification of product formulation and labeling targeting the nine most common (“big 9”) food allergens".
The Directive has been revised to add sesame as the ninth major food allergen, clarify that the milk allergen is "cow's milk" and include an additional example for soy products.
The document provides instructions to inspection program personnel (IPP) for performing allergen formulation verification task in the Public Health Information System (PHIS). IPP shall verify that establishments are accurately controlling and labeling the nine most common food allergens in meat (including Siluriformes products), poultry, and egg products establishments.
