The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) published a notification to disclose the amendments of Food Additive Code1, which will be implemented on July 1, 2023.
Nicotinic acid
Nicotinic Acid is mainly used as a nutrition enhancer. However, the intake of Nicotinic Acid in excessive dosage can lead to side effects. Therefore, the competent authority reduced its application scope to four food items. After the implementation of the provisions, Nicotinic Acid can only be added to:
- Special nutritional foods.
- Foods for special medical purposes.
- Health functional food.
- Nutrition-enriched wheat flour.
