Changes to food material rules

South Korea

Oct 21, 2022

South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) is consulting on a proposal to allow the use of polybutylene adipate terephthalate in food utensils, containers and packages.

If approved, PBAT would be added to the list of allowed materials for these products.

The proposed amendment to the ‘Standards and Specifications for Food Utensils, Containers and Packages’ comes in response to industry demand for biodegradable material to use in containers and packages.
