Warning on the labeling of food supplements with curcuma

The General Directorate of Hygiene and Food and Nutritional Safety of the Ministry of Health has adopted new measures to incorporate a risk warning for products containing Curcuma, to which particular physiological effects were previously attributed to the substance.
The 28 July 2022 decree provides for the introduction of the following additional warning for the labeling of supplements containing ingredients derived from Curcuma:
"IMPORTANT NOTICE.
In case of impaired liver or biliary function or gallstones in the biliary tract, the use of the product is not recommended. Do not use during pregnancy and lactation. Do not use for prolonged periods without consulting your doctor. If you are taking any medication, you should seek the advice of your physician".
Food business operators must comply with labeling of food supplements containing extracts and preparations of Curcuma longa and spp no later than December 31, 2022
