FSSAI classifies bottled mineral water as high-risk foods

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued an order to reclassify packaged drinking and mineral water into the “high risk” food category, requiring annual third-party food safety audits. The move comes into effect immediately following a November 29, 2024 order, and central licensees in this category must now undergo annual inspections aimed at mitigating potential health risks associated with the production of packaged water.
