Ministry of Health emphasized that it is mandatory to fortify food with micronutrients and that the requirement for salt used in food processing must be fortified with iodine is consistent with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and international experience in preventing and combating micronutrient deficiencies.

The Ministry of Health said that the 76th World Health Assembly in 2023 adopted a Resolution on Promoting the prevention of micronutrient deficiencies through safe and effective food fortification.

The Ministry of Health affirms that there are no concerns regarding the public's use of iodized salt, including iodized salt used in households and in food processing. In Vietnam, there has never been a case of people having excess iodine.
