Regulation of the law for the fortification of rice approved

The Ministry of Health has approved the regulation of Law No. 31348, which promotes the fortification of rice in Peru and thereby contribute to reducing child malnutrition and improving the nutrition and health of the population in general.

Rice producers, national or foreign, have six months to include fortified rice in their production line.

Fortified rice is enriched with vitamin A, vitamin B complex, vitamin D, vitamin E, iron and zinc. The sources of vitamins and minerals must be food grade and highly bioavailable. Their addition must not modify the organoleptic characteristics of the rice.
