Jul 30, 2024

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced a draft resolution that would establish the technical regulation defining the uses and maximum contents of industrial trans fats and partially hydrogenated oils.

One of the most important aspects is the establishment of specific limits for industrial trans fats. The regulation establishes that foods may not contain more than 2 grams of trans fats per 100 grams of fat. It also prohibits the use of partially hydrogenated oils in food processing.

Regarding the transition of this new draft regulation, the resolution establishes a period of 18 months for companies to adapt to the new trans fat limits. However, for the ban on the use of partially hydrogenated oils, a period of 36 months has been given.
