New draft regulation to reduce trans fats in food

Colombia

Oct 02, 2023

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has published a draft resolution that establishes the technical regulation defining the uses and maximum contents of industrial trans fats and partially hydrogenated oils.

The draft resolution applies to packaged foods, beverages and gastronomic preparations intended for human consumption in Colombia. It also affects holders of registration, permit or sanitary notification of processed foods in the country.

Pursuant to the draft resolution, packaged products would have to include on their labels the trans fat content in milligrams per 100 grams or milliliters of food and per serving of food, following the standards established in Resolution No. 810 of 2021 of the Ministry of Health.
