Trans fat ban in food and beverages goes into effect

The Decree published in the Federation Bulletin (DOF: 03/24/2023) adding an article 216 Bis to the General Health Law, which bans trans fats in Mexico, came into force as of Wednesday, September 20. However, the Executive Branch has yet to publish the regulations that will establish the executors and their responsibilities. The Decree has two objectives: that trans fats are not added to products and that products with more than 2% of trans fatty acids in their total content are not distributed.
