On June 28, 2024, the FAO and the Pan-African Parliament introduced the Pan-African Parliament Model Law on Food and Nutrition Security. This legislative framework aims to guide African Union member states in ensuring food security and the right to adequate nutrition.

The initiative builds on a 2016 Memorandum of Understanding between FAO and the Pan-African Parliament and emphasizes parliamentary action against hunger. With technical assistance and resources from FAO, the model law addresses challenges like climate change and food insecurity, aiming to improve conditions for over a billion Africans facing dietary inadequacies.
