France publishes considerations on the impact of PFAS

France

Jun 07, 2024

The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) has informed about its intensified efforts to understand the exposure and dangers of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), which persist in the environment and pose health risks.

The agency is prioritizing the identification of the most toxic PFAS and their presence in water, food, and air. A comprehensive assessment of PFAS contamination in France will be concluded in 2025. This work supports the EU's potential ban on PFAS, which is under review by the European Chemicals Agency. ANSES aims at reducing PFAS emissions and enhancing monitoring to protect public health and the environment.
