New French Decree on cocoa and chocolate products intended for human consumption notified to the Technical Regulation Information System

The French Draft Decree amending Decree No 76-692 of 13 July 1976 on cocoa and chocolate products intended for human consumption has been notfiied to the Technical Regulation Information System (TRIS) on October, 2023. The Decree provides for an obligation to indicate the name of the country of origin of the cocoa, when packaged in France, for:
cocoa powder;

  • fat-reduced cocoa powder;
  • chocolate powder and sweetened chocolate powder and equivalent names;
  • chocolate;
  • milk chocolate;
  • sweetened milk chocolate;
  • filled chocolate; and
  • chocolate candy.

The objective of the Draft Decree is strengthening consumer information on the origin of unprocessed or processed cocoa for certain cocoa products. The end of standstill period is January, 23, 2024.
