Food Ministers of Australia and New Zealand meet to discuss regulatory improvements
Australia
May 06, 2024
On May 3, a meeting of Australian and New Zealand Food Ministers responsible for food regulation was held to consider food policy and regulation issues.
The key outcomes were as follows:
- Ministers stated that they will be working towards equalizing regulation of cell-based human milk products with ‘traditional’ infant formula products.
- After an independent review of the uptake of the voluntary front-of-pack nutrition labelling system called the "Health Star Rating system", the food Ministers set targets for the system. If these targets are not achieved by the industry, they will consider making it mandatory.
