FSANZ publishes amendments to processing aid regulations

The Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has published in the Gazette of Australia the amendment to the processing aid regulations:
- Amendment No. 227 - A1271 – Cellulase from GM Aspergillus niger as a processing aid. This application seeks to amend the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code to permit cellulase from genetically modified Aspergillus niger to be used as a processing aid in brewing of beer and in distilled alcohol production.
- A1278 - Beta-Fructofuranosidase from GM Trichoderma reesei as a processing aid. This application seeks to amend the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code to permit a genetically modified strain of Trichoderma reesei containing the beta-fructofuranosidase gene from Aspergillus niger to be used as a processing aid in the production of short-chain fructooligosaccharides (scFOS) and to reduce sugar (sucrose) levels in treated fruit and vegetable products.
